BACK TO ARTWORK Artist's Statement In Jean-Pierre’s unique glass paintings, plane of color invite a game of hide-and-seek, and lines rise to the status of 3-demensional entities, bidding the viewer enter. His technique creates a “painted experience that travels a delirious route between the classical and modern, the serious and the comic, from eye to heart to mind. aptured between sheets of glass, Jean-Pierre’s paintings create the magical illusion of animated 3-demensional space. Since 1992, Jean-Pierre has been creating whimsical, engaging new pieces that have created a buzz wherever they are displayed, including galleries across the US and in Canada, Europe and Japan. He has worked with such corporations as Disney Productions and Coca-Cola to create special editions. Each of Jean-Pierre’s works is the result of multiple processes executed over a period of weeks. For each piece he creates three or four paintings on glass. Each is designed to work seamlessly with the other to create an overall sensation of motion. The editions are hand pulled on glass or paper using special lacquer ink for permanent adhesion. Color is individually and painstakingly hand applied, with permanent paints. Finally, each of Jean-Pierre’s works is individually signed, numbered and placed in a frame specially designed by the artist. Jean-Pierre Weill was born in Paris, France and raised in New York. After receiving a degree in classical studies he pursued his growing interest in oil painting at the New York School of Visual Arts. His interest quickly turned to multi-dimensional canvases. Jean-Pierre has demonstrated that his dynamic creations, like his background, frequently exchange identity while forming a continuous, evolving whole. Their commonality is the unique cast of the artist’s thinking, skill and sensibility. Jean-Pierre Weill currently lives in Baltimore with his wife and five children.
