Artist's Biography
Using a veriety of matchboxes from restaurants, hotels and bars, Dale Smith has created a truly unique art form. One that is as intriguing as it is colorful and tactile.

The idea of incorporating matchboxes into his art first occurred to Dale over 30 years ago. He recognized that matchboxes were not merely advertisements. They were an art form in their own right.

As such, they not only added texture and dimension to his work, but enabled him to create, if you will, art from art.

As his work evolved, Dale has incorporated other materials into his creations. You may discover an old wood-block letter or an antique bottle stopper. You may be surprised to find a beer coaster or a fragment of a greeting card. Or you may be delighted by a piece of driftwood or stained glass...or who knows what.

Dales creations range from seascapes to cityscapes, from barns to bars, from the realistic to the whimsical.

Each of the works is truly one of a kind you have never seen anything like them anywhere.

Dale’s unique creations are, in a word, matchless.
