Artist's Statement
Let the earth speak for me.
Let the earth tell my stories,
express my sense of awe, my sense of loss,
my sense of rejoicing.
The earth holds my memories and dreams.

Artist's Biography
In 1988 I drew the first piece in what has become an ongoing series of graphite drawings weaving architectural elements into the landscape. The series has evolved to incorporate the sacred through references to time, place, nature and music. Many of the drawings include the figure in an attempt to further enhance a narrative or evoke an emotion. Not every calendar year produces a graphite drawing. Residencies and exhibition opportunities call me to pastel work. Yet the drawings continue through sketches and concept development for graphites yet to be drawn.

In 2002, I was selected as Artist-in-Residence, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Central Avenue Beach became the focus of that residency…walking distance from my temporary home on the shores of Lake Michigan. Paintings in series evolved. That month-long residency coupled with return visits over two calendar years taught lessons in mood, hour and season. Over seventy-five paintings, created in multiple series, now comprise the collection “Paintings from the Dunes”. Much of the artwork is now dispersed into private collections, yet my study and insight gained through the work remain with me.

Exhibition is a critical part of my artmaking process. My graphite drawings and pastel paintings solicit emotional reaction from the viewer, evoke memories or dreams and stimulate dialogue. I have vigorously exhibited and marketed my work, participating in over 100 juried shows and invitationals and mounting 20 large solo exhibitions since 1986. I continue to explore, study and create more work while at the same time seeking new avenues for exhibition.
