BACK TO ARTWORK Artist's Statement I am often asked what does my work mean, or what is it all about? For the longest time I was not quite sure myself until recently: I deal with the truth, no matter what that pertains to or reveals. I find that this is the only way that I can work. From a very young age, I can remember being pulled in many different directions. I am from two countries; I was born in England yet I was raised in the USA, because of this I find that I am emotionally pulled by different world contentions. I come from a world of reserved politeness and I breathe in a world of blunt reality; this is how I view my spiritual understanding of that which created me. This has been both disturbing and eye opening at the same time. It is this emotional duality that I try to convey in my work. The truth may be hard to swallow at times but it is also cathartic in that it takes away the shadows and brings a kind of light that is mentally releasing. I work figuratively, but more than that I work with the flesh with all its realness. My work is a visceral experience that produces a reaction that persuades the viewer to want to reach out and possible touch the flesh set before him or her. In a world that not only works from the outside but I also see it trying desperately to answer the questions that plague the inside. This is where my works strives to become part of, that silent internal dialogue.
